酸菜猪肉饺子 Preserved Vegetable and Pork Dumplings - Original Taste AUD8.80

After too many visits to First Taste, we decided to try something new. Molley and HY mentioned that the Northern Chinese place in Box Hill tasted quite authentic, but we were worried that it would be stodgy food so typical of cold climes. We were surprised that the food did indeed taste quite good, even if it was a little carb heavy.
The 草帽饼 Hat Cake was a fluffy flour pancake, a bit like Malaysian/Indian roti canai, and a bit like the spring onion pancake. You could taste the sweetness of the flour.
The 猪肉白菜炖拉粉 Pork, Chinese Cabbage and Bean Noodle Stew was also good with chewy bean noodles and spongy tofu and Chinese cabbage to soak up the stewing juices of the pork.
Only the dumplings were unremarkable. We couldn't really identify the preserved vegetable, although it did taste a little like 腐乳 fermented beancurd.
