Dimsim - Cheng's, South Melbourne Market
Dimsim - Cheng's, South Melbourne Market AUD1.20
---
We hadn't been to the South Melbourne Market for a while and decided with was time to rediscover it.
Of course, we had to choose a decent place for breakfast before we hit the market. As it turns out, Chimmy's had the best baguettes we've had for a while!
The scrambled egg and bacon baguette was reheated in a grill, which probably gave them a chance to add another dollop of butter onto the already creamy, fluffy eggs. Not that I'm complaining! The baguette crust wsa crunchy and the insides soft and slightly chewy, much better than some spongey baguettes.
The Bakewell Tart was another hit with us. The rich buttery crust was filled with a sponge cake that was a bit like a frangipane filling with a gritty almond meal texture to it. It was good!
Because we were at the South Melbourne Market, we had to try the "original" South Melbourne Market dimsims, made famous by the Cheng's stall. It was better than the over-seasoned imposter from the Arts Centre forecourt coffee cart, but still, nothing to write home about.
