Assunpink Creek

Nearly 23 miles long, Trenton’s Assunpink Creek is a tributary that leads to the Delaware River.

Unfortunately, the Creek is suspected of containing harmful pollutants that could endanger environmental and human health.

According to environmental experts, the contaminants that could be in the Creek are the most common contaminants found throughout the country.

Antimony, Arsenic, Copper, Lead, PCBs, TPH, and Zinc are all among these possible contaminants.

PCBs were used in all kinds of electrical equipment, but they have been banned since the 1970s.

The metals can come from a whole variety of industrial processes.

Overall, Assunpink Creek is similar to many other rivers in New Jersey--they are all contaminated with the same kinds of chemicals from our long history of industrialization.
