Mervyn's, Westchester, CA

Mervyn's department store in Westchester, CA. Former Milliron's Department Store, later a Broadway. Sadly the main entrance has been remodeled but this view is still very cool looking.

Wow, You must be a Westchester local like me. Milliron's pre dates me though. I only remember the Broadway. The roof parking lot was fun with the restaraunt as well as the detatched display units out where those palm trees are now. They used to have photo's with Santa in those booths. We have a ton of those pictures.
      Great Westchester memories are also:
Westchester Music, Newberry's, Woolworth's, Savon's, and of course
our Loyola and Paradise theatre's. and there was a round car hop place where that medical building is now. I don't remember the name.

I'm not a local but I lived in Fox Hills for a couple of years in the 90's. I really hate what they did to the front of this store when they remodeled it. The Savon interior was also remodeled into oblivion and is now a CVS. I loved the green terazzo floors in there.

For sure ! Sav-on's ten cent Ice Cream was the best.
      That must have been 1972

      Thank you!

Blue States noted "and there was a round car hop place where that medical building is now. I don't remember the name.". If my memory serves me correct, I think it was a branch of the "Tiny Naylor's" restaurant chain. There used to be a lot of fist fights (wow, remember those!) in the dark parking lot following some of the rowdier Westchester High Football games on Friday nights : )

I used to love eating at The Chafing Dish restaurant atop The Broadway. It's one of the few things that I've not been able to track down photos of on the internet. It had some very high-styled lighting fixtures and decor that looked almost "retro" by the time I arrived in Westchester in the mid-1960's. I'd love to pepper my admittedly vague mental memories of the fine spot if anyone has any old family photos in their collection they could post, or point me to any 'net leads. Thanks!

Hi Tickle, Sure enjoyed your comments. It was the Tiny Naylor's. Thanks for putting a name on that for me.. Also with the Chafing Dish. You mentioned Pictures... the best I saw were inside the old woolworth Building that became the Westchester Square. They had some nice old Westchester shots.
