Whoa, It's Real
YACHT is playing in Athens tomorrow night...I'm amazed anyone thought it was still a good idea to bring us over.
We walked around downtown today and had to wear scarves over our faces because there was so much tear gas in the air. Riot cops everywhere, broken windows everywhere, flaming piles of newspaper, streets cordoned off, shopkeepers covering their storefronts with metal grates, red paint thrown on bank doors. The promoter told us that if we're going to go out, we should bring our passports with us?!
At the same time, life seems to be going on normally for most people, who are just trying to get around town and do ordinary stuff. Stores are open. The angst is mostly between the kids and the cops, and some unions today.
Still, I'm hunkering down with an International Herald Tribune and I'm not leaving our hotel room tonight.
