2012-02-24 Snow Goose (02) (1024x680)

Fir Island - Sometimes their head and neck are stained an orange color due to iron-rich waters and mud where they forage for food. Snow Geese by the thousands arrive from the Arctic in early October. Typically 70,000 to 90,000 winter in North Puget Sound until late March or April. This population will breed on Wrangel Island in Russian waters, according to the National Audubon Society.
