This Osprey family has a nest on a channel marker just south of Reagan National Airport. They've really adapted to the location. There are jets passing by every minute or two for much of the day, as well as boaters that *need* to pass by close to stay in the channel.
This day I was there shooting from the land, and got to talking to a man named Andy who offered to ferry me out to the nest(s). This was shot from very close, and I cropped it a bit. The birds did take off when we practically hit the channel marker, but I think they're really used to the action.
The next day when I was there they weren't in the nest for much of the day. It wasn't until the sailboats were mostly done cruising around the area for the day that they did return.
