I have been a creative person all my life. I have to be making something, and I have always gravitated to the fiber arts. From childhood I have done all kinds of needlework, mostly by hand. I have a sewing machine that I *can* use and do when necessary for utilitarian things, but I don't love using it. I dislike being pinned down to one place working on a machine. I prefer the portability and freedom of hand sewing, embroidery, knitting, etc. I was taught how to knit in 9th grade by my Home Ec teacher. I knew knit, purl, cast on, and bind off and that was it. I played around with it for years but didn't know how to read patterns that required shaping and so forth so I didn't do much with it. I loved knitting when I did it though and so about 8 years ago I picked it back up and was determined to teach my self how to really knit. I wanted to be able to make anything I wanted, so I got lots of books and found out about *wool* and have been hooked ever since. I consider myself an advanced knitter. There's not much I haven't at least tried.
In 2005 my husband and I started a fiber related business. He is a woodworker and makes these very awesome swifts which were the first product we marketed. I shortly thereafter began dyeing yarn and our business has grown from there. We have a website that we do about half of our sales from and we travel around, well I do, doing Fiber Festivals for the rest of our income. I adore doing the shows. I look forward to each one because it is my outlet into the bigger fiber community.
I should add as well that we have a large family at home still and we couldn't do all that we do without them. We have 7 daughters and 3 sons. Everyone does their share of work around here, and I am very proud of what we are able to accomplish together. :)
