To promote a discourse between the viewer and the paintings, the portrayed characters make direct eye contact. This engages the viewer as a reactor to the narrative; with the viewer's own social, cultural, political and religious affiliations as pertinent variables. Ultimately, the portrayed characters aim to fuction as catalysts of socialization, prompted by patriarchal family structures within western society.
