I am twice retired, once from teaching high school science and more recently from developing software for a local financial institution. I miss the former but not the later.

Over the last decade, I have been actively seeking out and photographing native plants in the Carolinas and the southeast United States. Along the way, I met Dr. Larry Mellichamp, director of the gardens at UNC Charlotte and a lifelong champion of southeast plants. In 2011, Larry asked me to assist with photographs for a new book he was writing, Native Plants of the Southeast, and that book has now been published by Timber Press!

Will Stuart is an incredible nature photographer. I am amazed at the diversity and technical excellence of his photos of plants, insects and birds as well as the knowledge he has about these living things. I am also impressed with the standards for photography that Will has set. One of my favorite birds to see and capture are the Warblers. Will has created a “dream” set of these beautiful, often hard to photograph birds, as well as an impressive portfolio of many other birds, plants, and Butterflies that we can all enjoy viewing and learning from. Thank you, Will, for the knowledge you share with us about all of your subjects. Thanks also for being such a great contact. I look forward to seeing more of your great work in 2009.
