The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights


Pursuant to the formal request lodged by the Republic of Armenia, the UN Security Council in its 29 January 1992 Session 3035 adopted the Resolution 735 (1992) recommending the General Assembly to accept Armenia’s UN membership request on January 23, 1992. On March 2, 1992, during its 46th Session the General Assembly adopted the Resolution 46/227 admitting the Republic of Armenia as a UN member.


On 17 September 1992 an agreement was signed in New York between the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of Armenia.


In December 1992 the United Nations established its office in Armenia. The UN Office located in the centre of Yerevan at 14 Petros Adamyan street.
