About me:

1. My artist statement is a quote from Marcel Duchamp.
"It’s art because I say it is."
Marcel Duchamp was a French artist who was associated with the Dadaist movement and the Surrealist movement. His work is subversive and playful.
Duchamp was a master at reinventing everyday objects into something completely different. He called these pieces “readymades.” For example, in 1917, he shocked the art world by turning a white porcelain urinal on its side, signing it with a pseudonym and renaming it Fountain. Learning about Duchamp and this era in art and history really opened my eyes to how things are not always what they seem and how someone's art and creativity is someone else's trash. However, it's still worthy of being artwork even if it's not aesthetically pleasing to everyone.

2. My favorite first sentence in any book is “The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn, like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes Awww!” ~ Jack Kerouac, On The Road

3. If I could look like any famous person, it would be Frida Kahlo.
