The Tar Sands Blockade is a peaceful direct action designed to pressure the state of Texas to reject the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and to inspire people living along the pipeline’s route to take action. If landowners and communities living in the path of the pipe use non-violent direct action in unison we can become a force to stop the pipeline. Stopping this one project will be a major blow to dirty energy and will help steer the State of Texas, as well as the nation, toward a clean energy future.
We are focused on building a broad coalition in Texas and Oklahoma, where the Gulf Coast segment of the pipeline will be built. By working with diverse groups, our goal is to bring hundreds of people to Texas to participate in this action. Many action participants will be engaging in civil disobedience for the first time, and we are committed to providing resources to make this the accessible, empowering, and effective action we all need. We know that, from Texas to the Canadian tar sands, we will win the fight against Big Oil by uniting with all communities impacted by the pipeline and tar sands extraction.
