Welcome to the new home of SPIKYJUMPER and Jake Peet Photography.
My father gave me my first camera – a Kodak 126 – when I was four and I’ve been passionate about taking pictures ever since. Back when I was little my father called me Spiky and sometimes, inexplicably, lengthened it to Spikyjumper - when looking for a name for my creative alter ego, it just had to be this.
After a two year general art & design course at Reigate School of Art (1989-91), I went on to study photography at the Kent Institute of Art & Design in Rochester, graduating in 1993. At art college I worked using most film formats including 35mm, 120 roll film and larger 5×4 formats too including all wet processing and printing and the various techniques this teaches a photographer and the art and craft this involves.
As well as working as a wedding and portrait photographer between 2009 and 2017 - trading as Jake Peet Photography - I’ve always had a huge passion for press and documentary photography citing war photographer Don McCullin, street photographer Gary Winogrand and organisations such as Magnum Photos and National Geographic as influences and inspiration.
Over the years I've found it increasingly hard to make money from taking pictures - weddings are a hugely competitive market and frankly, everyone and their uncle is a 'photographer' and so today, I do it for pleasure.
spikyjumper doesn't have any testimonials yet.
