I live in Akureyri, Iceland with my wife, Hugrún. I currently use a Canon 5D and I'm always working on expanding my lens and lighting pallet. My formal education is in the sciences which keeps me happily employed and quite busy in a laboratory setting. I am NOT the Dublin born painter with whom I share my name.

My current interests in photography are macro, landscape and portraits. I am currently trying to learn how to light people in a way that feels natural. The novelty of living in the arctic has not worn off and spotting the northern lights still excites me to the core.

My primary purpose for being on Flickr is to share the pictures I've taken over the past few years while using constructive criticism of my work to advance my understanding of the art of making images. While I do find new equipment interesting, I would much rather have conversations about the lighting, planning and execution of images.

I first became interested in photography when exploring methods of quantify mold and bacterial growth on petri dishes. For this application, I purchased my first camera: a Fuji Finepix 2400. It had a mammoth 2.1 mega pixel censor (huge at the time!) and used a freeware program published by the NIH called Image J to determine pixel count/area. I later discovered the artistic side of photography until I was in my mid 20s.
