My Macro Blog:

If you are interested in using my image, please send me a flickr mail.

I enjoy nature photography esp macro. I shoot for events, wedding and special functions as well.

I bought my first camera, a Minolta Point & Shoot before I went for a 2-week solo trip to New Zealand, in Jan, 1996. Not too long after that, I upgraded to a Minotal SLR (film) 700si. I had a Tamron 90 SP 1:1 lens too at that time, but never got into macro photography. Maybe it's because film processing cost could get quite hefty.

I bought my DSLR, a Nikon D80 and a new Tamron 90 SP 1:1 macro lens in July 17, 2007, and started doing macro photography since then. It's tough shooting macro but I am loving it.

My Gear:

Canon 70D,
Canon 270EX speedlite.
Tamron 60mm macro lens
Laowa 15mm 1:1 wide angle macro lens
Sigma 150mm F2.8

Dec 2008 till now
Canon 40D
Canon MP-E65 1X - 5X Macro Lens
Canon MT-24EX Twin Flash
Canon 580 EXII speedlight
Tamron 17-50 F2.8
Hakuba LH1 Flash Bracket
OC-E3 cable

July 2007 - Dec 2008
Nikon D80
Tamron SP90 F2.8 macro lens
Tamron 17-50 F2.8
Raynox DCR250
SB800 speedlight

"I've known Kurt over the internet for quite a few years now. Firstly I'm a committed conservatonist and lifelong naturalist, with a passion for biodiveristy, before being a photographer.

IMHO Kurt has consistently gathered the best photographic illustration of biodiversity I have ever had the pleasure to see, They are a true inspiration and a valuable resource. However, it is the consistent quality of the images which is most amazing. They are consistently well composed, and the lighting is wonderful, Best of all what comes across is a real respect and love of the subjects.

I honestly think that those that use photography to record biodiversity i.e. academia need to look at employing the skills of Kurt.. I know of no one with more expertise to do this."

He has an eye for composition, color and detail I constantly learn from, and have for years. When he comments on one of my own photos I regard it as coming from a real Master of the art. :-)

    Matteo Malagutti says:

"I had a deep look at almost all of Kurt's images, and there I found a completely new way of conceiving Macro Photography.
With his images he brings us in a world that would be completely unknown otherwise and he does that very uncommonly, not just showing colorful tiny realities as their very appearance suggests they should be represented, but revising and interpreting them from what I would call a "human point of view". All of those insects, spiders and flies look like they've got their own character, their own personality, telling a different story in every single image."

"Kurt @ Orionmystery is such an amazing macro photographer. I admire his dedication and tireless effort to improve his photography skills. His photos are awesome even during his pre-MPE days. He has since converted from Nikon to Canon for the legendary macro setup, the MPE-65 and MT24. It shows his dedication and willingness to go the extra mile to move on to the next plateau, alongside the great macro photographers, globally. I hope his macro works get recognized, not only in this region, but globally. He very well deserves it!"
