This is my camera. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My camera is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it, as I must master my life. Without me my camera is useless. Without my camera, I am useless. I must focus my camera true. I must shoot straighter than my subject. I must shoot him before he moves. I will.

My camera and I know that what counts in this life is not the rolls we shoot, the noise of our shutter, nor the chemicals we use. We know that it is the prints that count. We will print.

My camera is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its viewfinder and its lenses. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my camera clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will.

Before God, I swear this creed. My camera and I are the defenders of my truth. We are the masters of our subject. We are the controllers of our life.

So be it, until there is no subject, but peace!
