Hi Folks !

I'm an explorer and nature photographer living on the West Coast of New Zealands South Island .... should read WET coast, we get about 3 times the annual rainfall of the Amazon Basin !

I've been a chef, cave guide and comedian and done the odd bit of farm work and horticulture. I'm into caving, surf kayaking and skating, music, art and theatre, and play guitar and sing. I love exploring the rainforest, mountains or coastline discovering and capturing those special places and hidden treasures that most people don't get to see. I mostly take nature photos, and, in those, I try to capture the scene as close to natural as possible. Although I prefer my nature pics to be realistic, I do like to do a bit of arty and PJ type stuff too. I'm so impressed with the variety and the quality of shots I've seen here, and I've already made lots of cool friends in the short time I've been a member.

I'm working on my own book at the moment, although my photos appear in around a dozen publications to date, including two Guinness World Records books for US schools, Neville Peat's 'The Tasman', 'Batemans Guide To Wild New Zealand', New Zealand Wild Life' , New Zealand Geographic magazine, and the NZ Geographic book 'Southern Exposure'

I'm currently using a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ300

Its "only" a compact camera, but the best available in my opinion, with 24x optical zoom and full HD video recording. It is particularly good for macro photography in low light. I sometimes use Raynox macro lenses for close ups.

You can also catch up with me on Facebook

I hope you enjoy my photos :)

, Steve
