I’m a blogger and writer best known for my blogs The Map Room and DFL. Among other things, I review Canadian science fiction for AE and edit a fanzine called Ecdysis. I live in Shawville, Quebec with my wife, our three cats, and an uncomfortable number of snakes.

Here on Flickr, you will frequently see me trying my hand at astrophotography (for example, photographing the Moon), identifying snakes in other people’s photos (for example, I follow the "gartersnake" tag, and often let people know when what they have isn't a garter snake), and mercilessly photographing innocent science fiction writers at conventions. But mostly taking pictures of the cats. My cat-infested Instagram account exports here as well.

Copyright and permissions
Up until 29 July 2014 my photos had been covered by a Creative Commons licence. If you began using my photos under that licence prior to that date you may continue to do so so long as (1) it's for non-commercial purposes and (2) you credit me as the photographer. Because some people failed to follow even these requirements, as of 29 July 2014 all rights are reserved. Please contact me to inquire about using my photos. For more information, see the FAQ on my personal website.

My camera gear
My main cameras are a Nikon D7100 digital SLR and an iPhone 5. From time to time I also use one of two compact cameras: a Canon PowerShot S100, which was The One I Had with Me before I got the iPhone, and a weatherproof Nikon Coolpix AW100, for when the weather outside is frightful. In April 2014 I calculated one year of my camera usage. Previous cameras include a Nikon D90 (2008-2013), a Canon PowerShot SD780 (2009-2011), a Nikon D40 (2006-2008) and a Nikon Coolpix 995 (2002-2006).
