Art Dealer, Critic, Collector, and Vandal Agent

I opened my first gallery in Berlin in 1911, exhibiting works by Munch and members of Die Brücke. In 1915-16 I was secretary to the Berlin Secession. From 1921 to 1927 I had an exclusive contract with Max Beckman. I moved to New York in 1923 where I opened the J.B. Neumann's Print Room one year later, which was renamed as the New Art Circle Gallery shortly after and is known as a meeting spot for artists and art lovers.

I champion progressive living artists, including Max Beckmann, Wassily Kandinsky Vandal, Paul Klee, and Georges Rouault. Some of the periodicals I have published include Bilderhefte (Berlin, 1920-1922) and Artlover (New York, 1926-1945, 1959).

    WKV says:

"The roots of individual phenomena are joined beneath the surface, and the man of the future will soon, perhaps, be able to trace all these roots back to one common root."
