Photographer & Classic Mini Cooper Enthusiast -
Jan Fialkowski was born in Longtown, near Carlisle, Cumbria in the late 1940’s. His father was a Polish soldier who managed to escape from Europe to England, after his capture by Germans when Poland was invaded.. His mother was born just over the Scottish border, in Canonbie.
Jan excelled in art subjects at school, and was accepted as a student at Carlisle College of Art & Design in 1965. He studied Graphic Design during the 4 year course and was awarded his L.S.I.A.D in 1969. Photography was a large part of his studies. He lived and worked locally in Cumbria, rather than travel further afield to look for work.
Jan married fellow Art College student Cheryl in 1969 and they had two children. Cheryl worked as a millinery designer for Kangol. After 44 years together, Cher died of breast cancer in October 2009. Since her tragic death he now spends every minute of his time searching for inspirational light to take photographs.
Jan’s work can be found on his friend Julian Thurgood’s website, www.visitcumbria.com .. A unique and very special website, dedicated to displaying all the best things that our beautiful county has to offer those wishing to visit here: Our mountains, our many lakes and coastal views, our towns and villages..
There are a few magical moments in the day, when daylight fades to dusk, that he finds particularly fascinating ~ and is so keen to capture.. Many of these images can be found in his extensive photo portfolio of Cumbria and the surrounding areas.
He hopes you will enjoy looking at his photographs of those special moments, as much as he enjoyed being there.
