A Minneapolis-based research professional, James Ron has a background spanning three decades and countless cities around the world. In a tenured position with the University of Minnesota as a professor of public affairs, James Ron undertook leading-edge research while instructing graduate students in areas such as world politics, international human rights policy, and public affairs.


James Ron collaborated closely with domestic and international groups in ensuring that complex findings are transformed into actionable recommendations. He has been a consultant to Human Rights Watch from 1992 to 2019, where he pursued field investigations of war crimes and human rights violations in regions as diverse as the Albania/Kosovo border, the Ingushetia/Chechnya border, Nigeria, Turkey, and Israel/Palestine.


James Ron’s professional responsibilities extend to volunteering for the Australia-based nonprofit Life for a Child, which focuses on providing children in low income regions with insulin and supplies for type 1 diabetes treatment. James Ron’s past leadership responsibilities included a role as Canada Research Chair at McGill University in Montreal, and Stassen Chair of International Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
