Hug It Forward is a grass-roots organization that facilitates education and awareness by empowering communities to build "bottle schools".
Bottle schools are schools built using "eco-bricks": plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash. Entire communities come together to make the dream of educational opportunity a reality, by building their own bottle school.
Hug It Forward also strives to raise awareness in developed countries about trash, consumption and the power of community. This mission is equally important to us as facilitating the construction of bottle schools in developing countries.
You can see a 3-minute video of how bottle schools are made on the home page of our web site: www.hugitforward.org
We completed our first bottle school in October 2009 and our 20th in September 2012 - at an average cost of just $5,000 per classroom.
Our goal is to share the bottle school technology so that anybody anywhere in the world can create their own bottle school, wherever there is a need.
To further the realization of this goal, Hug It Forward volunteers have created a Bottle School Manual, which is a free open source step-by-step guide to constructing a bottle school in your community.
We also facilitate one-week voluntourism trips in association with our partner organization Serve The World Today, where you can come to Guatemala and help build a bottle school.
Hug It Forward doesn't have any testimonials yet.
