I am a freelance photographer based in Houston, Texas. I currently shoot per assignment for Houston's Village Voice Media outlet, the Houston Press. I also shoot for SoundSpike, Clear Channel Media and more. For more of my work you can check out my blog.

I have always been enthusiastic about photography. I credit my brother for my interest in photography. He'd let me handle and shoot his 35mm film cameras. I shot 110's, disposable and automatic 35mm cameras until I got my first SLR when I was a teenager. I didn't shoot too much as I couldn't afford to develop film. My photography waned to the occasional vacation shots.

I started taking digital pictures in 1996 with a 640x480 Casio Digital Camera. My love for photography was reawakened and I gradually progressed to many better point and shoot cameras until 2007 when I purchased my first DSLR, a Canon Rebel XTi. I upgraded to a Canon 5D in 2008 and a 5D Mark II in 2009.

"Groovehouse is a photographer, lover, fighter, fully formed from the head of Sweet Sweetback. He stands out as the dude most able to capture action, performance, or that perfect moment. A slab of steak to other photographer's McD's hamburger."

"I am and will always be fortunate to call groovehouse friend...constantly in awe and amazed by the images I encounter upon each viewing of his photostream; whether it be skaters caught in mid-air action, everyday items that take on new meaning through his photographic poetry, or just the most appealing spread of foodstuffs...(Not to mention the sweet countenance of Ms. Reva's Caturday afternoon portraits!) there is a brilliant imagination at work, and through those eyes, conveyed through a lens, we are given access to the world of groove...and it is a good thing! Thanks alot, man...without your suggestion, I would not have found the pleasure and the newfound confidence to handle a camera myself. You're the tops, brother!"

"I don't remember how I first stumbled across Groovehouse's photos, but they've counted among my favourites ever since.
He's also saved me a ton of air fares, as I now get to see all the bands and interesting quirky stuff that Houston has to offer without ever leaving my sofa.

I always look forward to your pics, GH, what a gent you are, and I'm proud to call you a pal!"
