The Goathouse Refuge was founded by sculptor and potter Siglinda Scarpa as a cage-free refuge for homeless cats awaiting adoption.

We are located near Pittsboro, North Carolina, in Chatham County, on a 16 acre farm (view map). Our cat population is about 200, give or take, depending on adoptions and intakes. Our cats are rescues that come from the community. They may have been surrendered by their owners, found living outdoors, picked up from high-kill animal shelters in the area, or by any other way a cat or kitten has found itself alone in the world and in need of rescuing. They are all fixed and vaccinated. Many of them will be lifelong residents of the refuge, but the majority are available for adoption. They are housed in a spacious building with access to roam and explore among the visitors, volunteers, staff and artists in a one-acre, cat-safe outdoor enclosure.

We are open daily and love visitors, especially between 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please take a moment to join our Facebook page and Meet the Cats!
