Been dabbling in photography for ~50 years (since early high school). I bought a used Asahi Pentax SpotMatic single lens reflex 35mm camera back when I was in high school (built-in light meter, but no auto-focus like today), and did some sports photography and still-life shots. I tried black and white and developing/printing my own photos in a darkroom, but I really preferred color, and color slides in particular. I shot mostly EktaChrome and KodaChrome, ASA 100 or 200, but would push the film up to 1600 for special situations. Back then photo developing places knew what pushing meant and knew how to alter the development process to maximize the quality. I bought a Canon Digital Rebel SLR in 2004, eventually wore that out, and bought a Canon T3i to replace it.
