It's not all flat in Australia

Blown away

My way

It all started many years ago (ho, ho) when I was allowed to use my dad's camera as a kid. At the age of 18 I robbed my wallet and got my first own gear, a Minolta X700. When digital photography became more popular I tried several pocket cameras (IXUS, Nikon CoolPix and Ricoh) before deciding to replace my X700 with a Canon DSLR. It' is not really important, what kind of gear you use, as long as you have a great eye for the beauty of our world and use some imagination.

I much appreciate your interest in my photography.

Your visits and comments on my photos are inspirational, encouraging and motivating. It's has been the engine to improve my style and technique.
Thank you all.

""I'm listening to Isao Tomita's arrangement of Debussy's Arabesque No.1 as I wander through your photostream. Its a perfect combination; it draws me to the image, making me wish I could pass into it and experience the moment wholly. Still, doing so vicariously is no small thing. Its an enviable record of an enviable moment. A tip of the hat to you for having posted such beautiful photographs! ""

"I consider Garry's work as the epitome of photographic excellence. His mind is just different. The way he looks at things are way beyond the imaginations of lot of people. Though a lot of people might think that creatively but, here is where Garry makes the difference - he renders it as excellently as he thinks. Each picture of his makes me feel that, I wish I could capture that !!! I know there's a long way yet to go but sometimes wonder what can be longer than what he does now. Simply outstanding and so inspirational that I cant compare anything to his work. If I sound biased then, I am sorry i cant help it. You are a great guy Garry. I always keep ur photostream open. My firefox has one tab always saved and that is ur photostream... Keep inspiring and best of luck...!!!"

"Garry's photographs never fail to impress. His originality is what makes I and other flickr members return to his photostream again and again. Using long exposure techniques he manages to achieve wonderfully surreal effects and yet he still retains a pleasingly natural element. This natural element is born though experience and real talent giving inspiration to all of those who view."

"I've today just come across Garry's work here by first viewing the abandoned bus in the red-earthed Australian outback which consequently led to viewing his many other photographs and then some correspondence with him where I learnt that he is Swiss-born.
Using techniques far beyond my humble capabilities, it is perhaps an outsiders eyes guiding the camera's lens that so well capture the character and quirkiness of Australia in his exceptionally captured images displayed here. The adventures of his travels are represented with awe-inspiring beauty, while in his 'special' immaculately prepared shoots display an attention to detail and an eye for the drama of the 'long moments' of time exposure and what he terms Lightpainting. Extraordinary images taken by these techniques at night are revelatory. He insists it's relatively 'easy' to achieve which is encouraging of him to say, however, I think he underestimates his own genius! His images of Outback Australia are magnificently portrayed."

"The greatest compliment to a photographer is to say they understand light and then convey it into an emotional experience. Garry's work does this best, period.

These images, vivid with color and expressive with emotion, fill us with the impact of life. They show the very best that photography can be and it is to my great fortune such work is shared.

As well, anyone who favours ELO shows great taste in the arts."
