I started taking pictures in 1964 during my last of four years in the U.S. Navy. I paid $10.00 for a used all manually operated Kodak Pony 135 that I bought from a shipmate In order to record as much as possible from a cruise through the Mediterranean, Red Sea and Persian Gulf. Everything I shot was on Kodachrome ASA 25 and amazingly the colors on those transparencies have kept well.

Through the years I dabbled in photography and with birding. I always thought it would be interesting to combine the two pastimes and take pictures of birds. Digital photography has made it easy and practical to shoot not only birds, but butterflies, dragonflies, insects, frogs and all forms of wildlife. In November 2006 I purchased my first DSLR, a Nikon D200, In February 2013 I upgraded to the Nikon D800.

I live in Miami, Florida, USA, so most of my shooting is in Florida. I also travel to Colombia and Brazil frequently, and that’s why some of my postings are from those countries.

I am married to a Colombian and was fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in São Paulo, Brazil for three years.
