CARE stands for Cherished Albums Restoration Effort. Our mission is simple: to offer FREE digital restoration services for hurricane-damaged photos.

Note that Flickr does not display our largest sizes. Most images have been scanned at 600dpi, so that families may blow up images for mantlepiece framing.

Visit this info page on our website to learn how to become a restoration volunteer:

FYI 675+ volunteers from 40 countries have registered, although only 40% have actively adopted/restored photos. (Most registered in the first 6 months after the storm then presumably forgot about us once the media stopped showcasing Sandy.) Therefore we're always looking for new reliable recruits with great attitudes, who are willing to restore at least one photo.

Also note that we have signed waivers for every photo displayed on our pages, with explicit permission for CARE (not our volunteers, nor strangers) to post on Flickr. Visit or write to us for verification. And if you wish to display a photo on your personal or commercial website or blog? Please e-mail a request so that we can obtain family permission as well.
