Workshop for Letterpress Printing & Type Studies
Holsted, Denmark

I am born in 1969 and qualified as a silk screen printer in 2002 and as an adult teacher in 2005. I have been employed as a publicist and workshop leader at the Printing Museum in Esbjerg from 1995 to 1998.

I started my own private printing office in 2003 and took the title: bogtrykker (the Danish term for Printer). Today the workshop has a well equipped composing room with more than 450 fonts of wood, Monotype and foundry types. In the press room I work with my two flatbed proof presses, three (eight) tabletops and a Victoria A2. In my studio I also have a relative large library relating to the trade.

As an extra dimension to my work as a letterpress printer I have been cooperated workshop leader at the letterpress workshop held in connection with the 3rd North European Graphic Symposium - Odense 2011, as well as I’m teaching letterpress at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – Schools of Architecture & Design, Copenhagen.

In my work as a letterpress printer it is essential for me to work with metal and wood types &c. The art and craft and the limitation in composing by the hand is everything for me – it is slowly, relaxing and satisfying, and a very important contrast to the modern life. At the same time it also gives me the opportunity to work with the best materials and an occasion to think traditional typography into a new and experimenting way.

As a relatively new initiative, and as the only one in Denmark, I have started to hold private letterpress workshops at the letterpress workshop at the Academy in Copenhagen and in my private studio in Holsted. I hope that I with this product can promote the history, the art and the craft of letterpress printing in an age where everything else is digitalized.

My work has been shown at the exhibitions: Reverting to Type – London, UK 2010-11 and Letterpress of Pray – Fukuoka, Nagasaki & Tokyo, Japan 2011.
In connection to the 3rd North European Graphic Symposium a friend of mine and I curated the exhibition: Type Impressions – Odense, Denmark 2011.
