The Betel Centre is committed to maximizing quality of life for seniors in the community and to reflecting Jewish values.

In 1965, with support from UJA Federation, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) formed the Creative Living Program for seniors who were able to plan and implement their own activities with help from volunteers. After eight successful years, the program was renamed the “Centre for Creative Living.” The Betel family subsequently gave the organization a significant donation, providing the opportunity to build at 1003 Steeles Avenue West, in Toronto. The centre was named “the Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living" and rebranded the Betel Centre in 2007.

Today, the Betel Centre is a vibrant, growing, active centre, offering more than 120 programs each week to seniors in the community. Close to 2,000 members, and many more non-members, participate year round in our special events, courses, volunteer opportunities and myriad other offerings. Many long-standing friendships have been formed because of the warm and welcoming environment the Betel Centre provides. We are proud of our history and are dedicated to ensuring our programs are vital and significant now, and into the future.
