Many of my best days start on a beach, with bare feet, hair tied up in a pile on my head. I run along the ocean, January through December, in and out of the waves, music flowing around my head and mingling with the sound of the crashing surf. My feet turn red with cold, my head empties of everything but happiness and beauty and gratitude, and I eventually slow to a halt--breathless, sandy and resolved that the universe is a wonderful place.

I'm a busy soul, with a busy mind. I love traveling, walking, driving, reading, camping, hanging out with my people, meeting new people, sitting on a porch with a glass of wine, planning future travel, figuring out my life, and changing my mind. I love nights at home, on my couch, with my husband and dog and cats, watching movies or talking about our days. I love pulling weeds in my front yard, or painting a room, or putting in a new screen door on our 1927 house in Portland. I love evenings spent laughing with our friends over dinner and games, playing Killer Queen and the Star Wars Battle Pod at the arcade, and rock climbing with my buddy, Dan. I love road trips, quiet and long, listening to music or audiobooks with my husband. I love Canada, and New Zealand, and Australia, and Iceland, and Spain, and England, and Scotland, and all the people I've met there.

I photograph landscapes, weddings, and elopements. My heart is wrapped in making people and landscapes into art, binding atmosphere and emotion and personality into frame after frame. When I want solitude, I seek waterfalls and slot canyons and turquoise lakes. I love adventurous people, and going on adventures with them as I document their love stories. I love that it's my job to do so.

"I've known Ara for a few years now, and in that time i've discovered a woman of interesting tastes and styles. Oh, she'll lure you in with her beautiful waterfall shots, perhaps entice you with her wonderful bridge work(she got me with her long exposure photos). but then you'll start reading what she has to say and you'll be hooked for good. like a travelogue of her adventures every photo she shares will take you on a trip into her world and is a real treat to behold.

take the time to know her. she is worth every moment."

"If I had to single out one photographer in Flickr who has inspired me above all others, it would have to be Ara. Her eye for composition, incredible fortitude and technical brilliance makes her images jaw dropping and wonderful to study. Her passion for nature, particularly waterfalls, is so infectious that she almost single handedly caused me to want to focus on landscape photography.

As much as talent and excellence are important, I value Ara as a kind and generous person even more. She is quick to help if you need it, and more than happy to try to make you a better photographer. Thank you Ara, for all the help, support, and encouragement you have shown me as I try to figure out what I'm doing behind the lens. You are an inspiration to us all, and a simply terrific person."

"Ara is my favorite photographer on Flickr. Not only does she possess a fine eye for composition and the like, but her descriptions that accompany all of her postings, are often times a mixed bag of detail, awe, happiness and just pure excitement of the moment. Ara shoots wonderful photographs to be sure, but it is her great attitude for life that shines through as well. She takes the time to see and photograph the real world around us and she reminds us all to slow down and enjoy this bountiful and rich life that we can share together."

"It's tough writing a testimonial about Ara because's all been said before, either in comments on her photos or here. But Ara is special, this woman inspired me to hike up a mountain (literally). The amazing thing company of someone like her you find it's not as horrible as it sounds. Next thing you know, she has me sledding down a glacier on a trash bag...and not only was it *FUN*, I can't wait to do it again next year! She has a way with water, which isn't to say she doesn't turn any subject into a thing of beauty. Keep your eye on this one, not only is she likely to someday surpass her flickr fame, she's likely to drag you up mountains or through the snow or over cliffs, or who knows where else, and you're likely to be better for the experience."

I could go on and on but others have already covered for me on the redundancy "thing" so I'll just go back into the photostream and LEARN from a true master of the genre. Bravo!"

In addition, she is great at bringing people together and is very generous with advice and information. It is always a pleasure to click on one of her beautiful photos and read the tale of the adventure that was involved in getting it."

    Immortal Thrill-Seeker says:

"A shameless waterfallaholic, Ara has thwarted all attempts at interventions regarding her dangerous outdoor proclivities. She's just an incorrigible adventurer. And yet, we all love to enable her addiction by praising her for it. Although I'm still getting to know her, I've found Ara to be a disarmingly genuine human being. And when the subject of photography comes up, she gets this gleam in her eye that implores you to go shoot, and shoot right now! Because it'll be fun! It's her excitement and energy that's so infectious, it draws you right in. Ara understands the beauty of water like no other, and the beauty of life like few can. Truly an inspirational photographer and friend."

"Ara has a very impressive collection of photographs from almost any type of subject...her waterfall shots are all super great, and often are so original in their composition, you can't even recognize that it's one of the most photographed places in the state. That is's why I always look forward to her shots, and seeing what she sees. PLUS...anyone who has a such a close tie to storm troopers just rocks."

"I have been a fan of Ar'alani's work ever since I discovered her photo stream and love for the waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest. She has inspired me to get out and see some of the more remote locations in my area. She's also one of the few that actually takes the time to tell you exactly what she likes about your photos. I'm always interested and curious to see what she's gonna post next... :)"

"Sometimes in this world you bump into a person that sees the world in much the same way you see it. Ara seems to be that person for me, because we both LOVE waterfalls and nature and night photography.

It was a good day when I came across her photostream and I return regularly to see the beautiful shots she posts. Thanks for all the great photography and generous comments.

We'll get that Waterfall Exchange Program up and running soon. :-)"

"Ara takes special photos because she is a special person. I've been a regular to her photostream, and I continue to be impressed with her consistently interesting photos. She takes photos of scenes that have been photographed millions of times (Golden Gate Bridge), and yet she presents it in a wholly unique way. An artist.

I'm equally impressed by Ara as a person. She made a statement in one of her photo captions that reads, "I like people." This sweet perspective is what makes her special, and it's what lends her imprint on every one of her photos. Wade deep into her photostream and see this sweetness shine through."

"I'm a bit biased, because I consider Ara one of my best friends (and I've known her years now). But if I stripped my memory of any knowledge of Ara as a personn, I would still find her photography amazing. You can tell from her photos that she really immerses herself into a landscape (or cityscape), understanding and truly enjoying every moment of an experience. Her photos show us that sense of space. And, because I do know her personally, I can in good faith add that the beauty we see in her photos is partly a reflection of that in herself, the downright soulful exuberance of a girl who has perfectly balanced her inner child with her responsible adult. I hope to see many, many more pictures from her in months and years to come."

"Aras pictures show us the the many wonderful and fascinating facets of nature, viewed with love and fascination. Her photo stream demonstrates her great eye for light and shape, for feeling and atmosphere as well as her great care of composition. And she's always got some interesting story to tell along with her pictures, giving us the beautiful feeling of taking part in her exciting photographic journeys. If Star Wars were reality I'm sure she'd be the captain of a star ship exploring the unlimited universe.
I'm glad to count Ara as a friend on flickr. I'm always curious for the new discoveries she shares with us. And I always enjoy to find she visited me reading her amiable comments."
