Least Wanted says:
"Tight toy night, streets were so bright.
The world looked so thin and between my bones and skin
there stood another person who was a little surprised
to be face to face with a world so alive.
Didja feel low? No, not at all. Huh???
I fell right into the Arms of Venus de Milo."

"Annene Annene Annene… Surely if you have got this far you don't need me to sell her to you. I consider her a distant, unknowing mentor. Between her and Luke I have stolen much."

Arctic Lovers Rock says:
"Ms. Annene doesn't need me to join the throng of those who rightly revere her remarkable photographs, and witty and adroit comments, yet I must. Her work and observations are always surprising, interesting and pleasurable. And, of course, suffused with impeccable style."

"I was just going through my favorites and realized that Annene is the most favorited in my collection. On top of that she has so many photos in her stream that I haven't favorited. Yet. This woman has a magical eye and captures the world in a most personal way. I love it!"
December 3rd, 2007
"Annene... combines the independent heart of an artist with the power of universal love. I’m a sucker for people with the right mix of masculine and feminine energies and she has it. Affengeil."
September 20th, 2007
eminent boundary says:
"I did it; I didn’t want to admit to it but...
When I first came across annenes stream it didn’t hit me straight away it lingered until I was out in merry engerland walking in my shoes, chewing gum, clicking my fingers to some old jive when....
KEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRBBBBBOOOOOOMMMMM the full impact of annenes work hit me! With the resulting spoooge being so powerful that it ripped my y fronts in two and sent me face first straight into the mouse... poor mouse didnt even see it coming."

"The existence of Annene is an enigma.
I cannot tell you for sure what she is."
April 20th, 2007
"it took quite some time for me to warm up to the images on annene's stream...
pardon me for saying so, but initially i found them a tad precious and perhaps a little too esoteric for my simple literal mind to appreciate..
i am known as a bit of a bullshitter around these parts...but i do not lie..
so when i say that this stream serves up some of the finest images that flickr has to offer...it's no joke...
thx AvD...i think i'm finally starting to get it..."

"Not to belittle her photographic accomplishments, but I still hold that Annene missed her true calling as a cult leader. Flickr is happier, but the cultosphere is a sadder place."
March 14th, 2007
"Annene is a rock star.
In a good kind of way, not in a self-obsessed-junkie kind of way.
February 13th, 2007
"Like a whirlwind tour across the USA !
So many feeling are conjured up when I look at Annenes images...these beautifully stark phots are at one instances frightening, yet full of beauty..."

"Eloquent words abound here, about Annene...and it goes without saying that none of those words no matter how well they are put together, quite describes her.
I will not be so eloquent, I will just say that as one can see by all the tributes posted here about Annene that two or three things jump out.
One, that Annene is a great photographer, perhaps as great as Ansel Adams, or any who came before.
Two, that Annene is unique, one of a kind, often imitated, never duplicated. Just when you think you have her figured out, she smiles and gently knocks you on your butt with something unexpected.
Thirdly, and most important of all, Annene is one of those addicting personalities. She knows no stranger, and the longer to know her, the more you love her. From the tributes posted here, I would have to say that Annene is loved by many, many people. That perhaps is the greatest tribute of all! Annene, I/we love you."

"Un sens de la vie sans commune mesure."
January 2nd, 2007
"No question, Annene is the most interesting American photographer on Flickr. "American" is there because her work is a delicious, sizzling 3/4 pounder of sexual surfaces with the cheese scraped off, topped with pixels and Special Sauce containing 17 secret herbs and spices, wrapped up in a leopardskin enigma. On wheels."

"there will always ve debates about who is the 'best' photographer on flickr; who is the most inffluential, who is the most emulated...
these debates are rendered meaningless as soon as the phrase ann - ene is muttered.
a modern master."

"Annene is the center of the universe. She is the shining star in the middle. She is the best.
I wanted to write a testimonial for a long time now, but it is totally useless after 404's testimonial. I will never hit the nail in so few words. Apart from that I would not use those words. :-)"
October 28th, 2006
"Ann'ne takes stunning photos and I suspect she may come from the depths of outer space, out near Pluto or maybe even from one of those tiny blinking lights in the sky that I worry about occasionally. But that's ok, so long as she flosses regularly."
October 24th, 2006
"I'd say "she makes the ordinary extraordinary", except for how fucking cliched that is.
Aww, what the hell, I'll say it anyway."
October 12th, 2006

"I anticipate Annene's themed series just like I anticipated Sunday night James Bond flicks on TV every few months when I was a kid. If you are just here on a lark checking out the profile, please listen to the people on this side of the page and jump to the photo page pronto, and especially the mind blowing photosets. Parched desert? Check. Urban hell? Check. Roadside Americana? Check. It's all there, Clyde. Here's the clue stick- knock yourself out, move mousie up to the 'Photos' link and climb aboard for the ride."

"Annene is my piece of home when I feel lonely, my piece of logic when I feel confused, my piece of simplicity when I´m in the mess, my laugh when I feel sad....and I don´t even know the woman!"

Hell's Donut House says:
"If she took any more of my breath away, she'd be arrested for manslaughter."
August 29th, 2006
"just like Julius Shulman before her, Annene is an architectural, modernist genius. her talent for elegant, streamlined, powerful images never ceases to amaze.
the only question now is, I want a book, when is the book coming out?"
August 15th, 2006
"If I had Annene's eyes, she'd be blind and I'd be a great Artist."
August 14th, 2006
"Annene von Durchgerockt is my prefered FlickR contact. She works on a "classical" but very modern urban photography that shows our cities just the way they are. Many of her photographs are real masterpieces and I feel very sorry that my GERMAN words are too few and my ENGLISH is too poor to express what I think about every one of them. Thanks very very much for sharing!"
August 14th, 2006
Zen Cat says:
"It’s amazing how we can go to the market, drop in at sears, stop at Firestone to get the tires rotated, and simply be part of these very venues day after day and have their images pass into oblivion. It’s even more eerie how one can walk down the same block, go to the same post office or sit in a classroom, airport, bus station or local burger joint and never really see what is in front of them. Someone once said, “The camera helps us to learn the art of seeing.”
Well Annene has an uncanny talent for doing just that - to see. Going through her photostream you will find images that you see every minute of every day when it comes to your moving about and without thought these very same images slip comfortably into the unconscious. The world would not be the world without this array of form around us. In short she takes the invisible world of our surroundings and turns it into a visual titillating art form to be appreciated."
July 28th, 2006
Censored by Yahoo says:
"Annene was one of my first Flickr-Contacts. She gives me views into a world far away and sometimes her soul.... she has the eye to see things ambiguous and ironically. And so are her comments. Go ahead."
July 27th, 2006
"Annene tickles the imagination with her creativity, turning a rather bland subject into a work of art. Keep up the good work ;-)"
July 14th, 2006
"Annene V D, has two faults, one, she doesn't drink beer, and two, her images grab you by the nuts.
The first I can forgive, [I'm no elitist] as for the second; I guess I'll just have to wear a cricket box while surfing flickr in future."
July 13th, 2006
"Mostly I don't understand what she is talking about."
July 12th, 2006
Tim McDonough says:
"Best of all are her building images. Like genuinely talented artists she finds the remarkable in the mundane. The innumerable drab apartment complexes sprawled across southern California become great, jutting monoliths, stabbing into the hazy sky and I cannot turn away; a line of windows on an exterior wall become a delicate balance of geographic proportions. What's the best thing one can say? These are inspiring."
July 6th, 2006
Stephen R Mingle /Gonzo® says:
"I'd scrawl Ms. Annene a testimonial, but that would be redundant, and she doesn't need ego stroking while she's out there doing the work of sages, sooth-sayers, and visionaries. I won't bother her while she in the process on contextualizating everything- that "all the slackers of the universe" wish they had figured out.
And if that weren't enough:
plus: Annene throws the best parties!"
July 5th, 2006
victorious ticket says:
"This girl is so fucking sharp, I'd be amazed that she doesn't cut herself every single day."
July 4th, 2006
a nameless yeast says:
"what manny said - Annene is prone to irony not as a pomo defense mechanism to counter the dangers of feeling, but to embrace the beauty of this stark land in which we're livin' in."
July 2nd, 2006
Kent Johnson says:
Look at the pictures, they do all the talking you need."
June 28th, 2006
abject expansion says:
"Annene is looking.
She is documenting the strange details of the world, here and now, that most of us take for granted."
June 23rd, 2006
"annene's photography embodies the spirit of saying "yes" to life... in the age of irony, that's really something special."
June 1st, 2006
"Every Foto she made, is a little Movie!"
May 30th, 2006
"Annene said when she was just about five years old, "Hey y'know, there's nothing happening at all. Every time I put on the radio, you know, there's nothing going down at all. Not at all." Then one fine morning she puts on a New York station, she couldn't believe what she heard at all. She started shaking to that fine, fine music - you know, her life was saved by rock 'n roll."

brown join says:
"Annene is one of my photographic heroes. Her choice of subject matter is always fresh, and she has a critical eye without being cynical. In sum, someone should give her a medal."
March 31st, 2006
"I will never wash these images from my mind. The light is now part of my own eye and the shadows have twined themselves around every synapse. BWV 1014, Cantus Arcticus and a touch of Balada.
"Nach dem Tann lenkt sie das taumelnde Ross--She's riding her giddy horse towards the fir trees.""
March 11th, 2006
"Incisive and insightful. Just like her photos."
February 4th, 2006
"Annene is mah friend. And I am hers. Her point of view...drives me wild-eyed - 2005. And now she just keeps getting even better - 2006."
January 17th, 2006
"Annene has a powerful eye for design. She also takes excellent Nan Goldin-style party shots. I love the 80s flashbacks and her typographic details."
December 21st, 2005
"Annene is a house with uncountable rooms. Once you have entered it, beware not to get lost. Behind every door you will find another room and another room and another room, containing fascinating new things to discover. You will find large ones sheltering all kinds of a species, and small ones with only the highest art of its kind. The cellar is a labyrinth with numerous catacombs, showing dark relics from long gone times and the attic consists of ateliers where the light floods through the windows and beauty has found its home. If you now think, oh, this is too much for me, just go to the kitchens. Once you found those, you will never want to leave again. And that is good, because the neighbourhood is weird."
November 26th, 2005
"Annene is THE independent rock-star goddess of this world and beyond. Deal with it."
November 4th, 2005
"Annene and I are twin sisters seperated before birth. Except for the fact that she is the younger, prettier, nicer, wittier, more intelligent and more talented one. Other than that, you can't tell us apart at all!
Check out her photos and you will be capitivated by her unique eye as we all were."
October 22nd, 2005
"While on my last german tour,
I came across random Rorschachs
of lonely streets lined with stock polaroids
of the voodoo museum being devoured
by the night of the shriners..
all of the sudden..
America in ruins,
"phoned in" New Orleans
proving once and for all that
death and philosophy
are unwitting allies..
it's a long story
but you're in luck..
the lovely Annene von Durchgerockt
will grace you with the images
of history, ancient."
October 14th, 2005
"Annene is the Queen of polaroids and much more! She has the coolest name ever and a unique collection of wonderful(self)portraits. She has a special sense of humour and she makes a lot of clever remarks. Look at her photographs! Did you see something similar before?"
October 6th, 2005
"Annene is my big sister if she likes it or not. I love her photos if I like it or not."
September 30th, 2005
humdrum clam says:
"Sometimes on the Internet, you meet a person and you feel like maybe you should bow down and obey. Lick their shoes clean, name a new star after them, give them million dollar scratch-off tickets you find in the street.
If you have not done this for Annene yet, you better soon."
September 20th, 2005
Rev. Santino says:
"I read very good testimonials here and I only want to add a few things.
It is hard to write about a writer for an immigrant from Italy like me, but I have to make an exception for Annene.
I am in forever debt with Annene for she made me walk the street of New Orleans one more time before Jupiter's Great Wrath broke the heavens a few days after she broadcasted her trip from her camera phone. One more time.
September 13th, 2005
"I gotta say, I like her eye. Her photography is very intuitive, which is especially important in a Polaroid user. When she gets it right, it's dead-on, and when she gets it wrong, it ain't by much."
September 13th, 2005
Funny Fish says:
"Ann is absolutely rocked through! She loves food and good laugh and lovely old pictures with atmosphere and nostalgic dreams! She is an original, and as I love people with a difference, I really enjoy her!"
September 9th, 2005

"Annene is as cool as fuck."
September 6th, 2005
poised structure says:
"When viewing Annene's images, it can seem like the sharing of many tiny secrets. Through glimpses of her past and a gritty, honest look at her present, what emerges is a person of talent, taste and unique perspective."
September 5th, 2005
"She's the woman who made Orkut what it was. It's good to see her on Flickr too."
