The American Book Center (ABC)
Booksellers with a personal touch.
In 1972 a couple of young, enthusiastic Americans came to Amsterdam, the city where anybody, anything and everything goes, and decided to open a store with American erotic magazines and book remainders bought for 10 cents a pound dry weight... That was over 45 years ago!
This independent family-owned book company has stores in Amsterdam and The Hague with a quirky, friendly and knowledgeable group of staff members. Drop by to touch and smell the books, pick up a magazine and chat with the curators, the 45+ international booksellers, representing more than 700 years of bookselling. Visit our website and follow ABC on social media for event updates, fun facts and book news.
The Amsterdam location is often listed as one of the 10 most beautiful bookstores in the world, and both stores are highly rated for assortment and personal service.
Betty the Book Machines were added in 2010 in both stores so that readers who are writers can make and sell their own books in the shop. Since 2015, ABC also specializes in helping Dutch schools choose English books for their pupils. Many author events are held in both stores, the ABC Treehut in The Hague and on location with cooperating partners.
Let ABC know if you like them to offer a book buffet at your event!
