Eclectic = "Unrelated and unspecialized. Crossing a range or mixture of specialties. Selecting a mixture of what appear to be best of various doctrines, methods, or styles. Yup, that's me, or at least I delude myself into thinking that I shoot a lot of different images - food, landscapes, people, gardening, tango dancers, national parks, friends, the books that I read, the crazy things I see on my travels around the globe, whatever interests me.

Thus, eclectic.

Occasionally I'll fiddle a bit with contrast, sometimes I'll fool with posterizing, rarely do I delve further into PS, and often I'll go WYSIWYG. Whatever strikes my mood, or attention span. Sometimes I don't want to primp the photo at all - life is beautiful and busy, with an interesting day job, family, friends, sustainable gardening, buddhist practice (I practice because I NEED to practice) and tango dancing - so my photostream may not appear so coherent . : )

When I was a kid, I had a rudimentary 110 film camera, and then a much treasured Polaroid - with its resurgence in popularity I've seen here on Flickr I wonder whatever happened to mine. As a teen, I despised any attempt by my shutterbug father to be caught in his viewfinder. Ironically, probably predictably, my own progeny reacted the same way to his shutterbugging father. Despite our best efforts to flee 180 degrees in the opposite direction, we repeat our parents good, and bad, habits. Life is funny that way. Now that my son is grown up and working, he understands me a little bit better.

Jack of all trades, master of none, as Ben Franklin famously described himself, definitely would be too generous if applied to me, but my photographic and life interests range across such an eclectic prism that there's likely to be many different subjects within my photos. All but a handful of photos were taken by me - portraits, landscapes, macro's, wildlife, dancers, inanimate objects - the cornucopia of life makes me smile and all of it interests me. Work and family ties take me to the Asia-Pacific region regularly, sometimes annually, and since I'm engaged in the nature conservation/ecology field, I'm privileged to visit many national parks, nature protected areas and cultural heritage sites. Over the past few years we've been able to have a small vegetable garden and images from there will also show up from time to time.

Having been on Flickr now for a decade (!!) I've gone from one age cohort to another and am gently in my middle years, far removed from teendom or young adulthood, a rather nifty 50+ if you must know.
