My first camera was Box Brownie I received for my 10th birthday in 1962. I remember taking photos just before we left RNZAF Ohakea when my dad was posted to Wellington. I always loved taking photographs but circumstances never provided the opportunity to get seriously involved until the late 1970s working with the Department of Marine and Harbors at Port Adelaide.
That experience led me to do the Associate Diploma in Photography at SACAE in the early 1980's, running a small commercial / industrial B&W darkroom and doing work around Port Adelaide, mostly commercial / industrial stuff, but also weddings, portraiture, etc. I have processed more rolls of FP4 than I care to remember!
After completing an undergraduate degree in History and Politics at University of Adelaide I did the Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Management at Uni SA . My new qualifications with my photographic qualifications and experience provided me with my dream job - photo librarian and archivist.
Apart from my own photographs, as the family archivist I have also inherited photographs from my parents, Wing Commander Alastair Scott (1921-1993) and Judith nee Copeland (1921-2003). 'Scotty' served in the UK and SW Pacific during WWII, retiring in 1971. Judith was also in the RNZAF during WWII, represented the RNZAF in the London Victory Parade in 1946 and was Mrs Manawatu 1960, in the Mrs New Zealand contest.
I am now Content Services Librarian at the State Library of South Australia.
In 2012 I published 'Dumbo Diary : RNZAF No.6 (Flying Boat) Squadron 1943 - 1945'.

“I believe that free communication is essential to the preservation of a free society and a creative culture and that these pressures towards conformity present the danger of limiting the range and variety of inquiry and expression on which our democracy and culture depend” (Don Dunstan, Hansard, 10 November 1953, page 1386)
