Welcome to the GLOBAL PHOTO ARCHIVE -- home to over 20,000 (and counting) copyright-cleared photos by Adam Jones. I'm Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna, BC, Canada. I've written or edited fifteen books, including Genocide: A Comprehensive Introduction and Crimes Against Humanity: A Beginner's Guide. I'm also a passionate traveller who has lived or voyaged in over 100 countries on every populated continent. My illustrated e-book, In Iran: Text & Photos, highlights images from the Iran photo gallery on this Flickr site. Please consider purchasing a copy for the modest price of $5.99 if you wish to support my work. If you regularly draw upon the Global Photo Archive, consider helping to spread the word, e.g. by sharing the link via Twitter or Facebook.

COPYRIGHT INFORMATION: All of the high-resolution images on my Flickr page are my own work, which I think of as a blend of street photography, travel photography, and documentary photography. They are posted under a Creative Commons Attribution/ShareAlike license. Many are crossposted, generally under the same titles, to Wikimedia Commons. You may freely use these images in your personal, educational, and commercial projects. I ask only that people who use my work in print or online provide a credit -- along the lines of "Photo by Adam Jones, Ph.D./Global Photo Archive/Flickr" -- and that I be informed of the usage. You can write to me at adamj_jones@hotmail.com.

HI-RES VERSIONS, suitable for printing, are available for all images. On the page for the individual photo, look for the down-arrow to the right of the image. Click on it, then on "Original" to download and save the hi-res version to your computer.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: I owe a huge debt to the individuals, often unknown to me, who appear in my portraits. I recognize the sensitivity of presenting them to wide viewing and offering images of them for general use. My creative strategy is to record subjects in the evanescent moment that we share. I offer the results as a tribute to their uniqueness and vitality, and as a celebration of humanity as a whole. I believe that no subject is presented in a way that could reasonably be construed as disrespectful, demeaning, or invasive. Virtually every such photo is taken in a public setting. I trust that this constitutes a "fair use" of their personas in my photography, and supports its distribution under a Creative Commons license.

So far I've posted sets from over 60 countries: Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Benin, Bolivia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic (Prague & Lidice), Dominican Republic, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece (Corfu), Guatemala, Hungary (Budapest), India, Indonesia (Jakarta), Iran, Iraqi Kurdistan, Israel/Golan, Kosovo, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Maldives, Mexico (with a separate Yucatán set), Montenegro, Myanmar/Burma, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Serbia (Belgrade), Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland (Geneva), Tanzania, Thailand (Bangkok), Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, various United States destinations, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. Ahead for Summer 2018: Bulgaria, Ireland, and more from Ukraine.
