"Wanting another look at marykpics' brilliant photo 'Race to finish' and trying to retrieve some of the summer's heat here in Ontario's early winter, I took pleasure in looking back at her outstanding photostream.

From images of her son's sloop Rascal in mid-race (with marykpics both crewing and photographing) to equally beautiful photos of her granddaughter in mid-reverie to photos of our continent's wildlife taking timeouts for their own brief reveries, marykpics has given us moments which count among Flickr's most fascinating.

Take a look first at 'Wonder', a photo featuring marykpics' favourite model and the sweetest photo I've seen on Flickr. Observe too 'Looking for Duckie Bob', a photo suggesting not everything of importance concerning a sailboat is found on the sailor's horizon. And don't miss 'JOY', where the photog places her model in one of the most beguiling wonderlands I've seen anywhere - a photo to marvel at. marykpics shares a most enviable partnership with this young model.

And then view her sailing photos, in particular 'Storm over', where the sun backlights the water off the sloop's bow even as the skies keep threatening. Note too 'Race is on!' with the competition's boat already bolting. And then return to 'Race to finish', marykpics dazzling insider's view taken while she's perched precariously with her camera and leaning with Rascal away from 35 knot winds (or maybe into them), which sometimes I swear I can also see. Talk about heat.

And then, always my favourites among a photog's work, take a look at stunning wildlife photos like her in your face portrait of a barred owl, 'Owl Face'; 'You scratch mine, I'll scratch yours….', a photo of zebras using their heads in loving ways; 'Grizzly', a portrait of one of Toronto Zoo's grizzly bears doing what they do best (when they're not eating); 'Toss', her great photoset of polar bear Aurora at play; 'FeedingBaby', which asks the question, 'Do you really want to risk putting food in this baby's mouth?' And for comic relief take a look too at 'MaleBurrowingOwl', notable for many reasons, but also because you've never seen an owl (or most other animals) looking this pissed.

These few photos I've mentioned are among many others equally brilliant. They include landscapes, coverage of Renaissance Fairs, street photography, a wonderful tribute on the occasion of Mark Twain's birthday, a portrait of Mennonites traveling in an open horse-drawn carriage… photos which extend marykpics' range and prove her versatility. marykpics' eyes never appear to close - or blink.

marykpics splits her time between Ontario and Florida, sharing the heat she finds in these places and bringing it in her photos even to Ontario's winter cold - where its warmth will always find a welcome."

"Mary, Congratulations on your first year of providing fabulous photography here on Flickr.

I can see the relationship between your painting and photography and how you bring the viewer into each scene.

Spend some time on Mary's stream and you too can begin to understand the gift of blending color with creativity.
