The Fundamental Objective of the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) of the Bahamas is to improve aviation safety by determining the circumstances and causes of air accidents and serious incidents and making safety recommendations intended to prevent recurrence of similar accidents in future. It is not the purpose of this activity to apportion blame or liability.


The AAID operates as an independent investigation agency to guarantee expeditious response and movement of staff to accident sites. This authority was granted under the Civil Aviation Act, 2016, gazetted on July 19th, 2016. The AAID is responsible for the investigation of aircraft accidents and serious incidents as well as the publication of investigation reports. The AAID is charged with;


Maintaining their mandated independence and objectivity;

Conducting objective, accident investigations and safety studies;

Advocating and promoting safety recommendation;
