My career in photography started after spending 15 years creating custom projects as a website designer. I find creating a composition in nature is quite similar to designing a website from a blank canvas in Photoshop. This interest in design is what led me to start taking photographs which recently has become both a passion and obsession of mine. There’s something truly unique and interesting about capturing a moment in time, especially when everything lines up perfectly and you get the shot you envisioned.
It takes a lot of time and patience to get the right composition. Some days I’ll drive for hundreds of miles to get 1 photograph, which may or may not happen, everything has to fall into place… the lighting has to be just right, the composition, all of your camera settings. Much of my inspiration has come from photographers such as Ansel Adams and Clyde Butcher.
I enjoy landscape, wildlife and sports photography equally. Landscape because of the scenery and it’s a great way to escape from the city and all of the craziness and sort of reset. Wildlife is always part of my landscape trips, I have my 200-500mm Nikon lens sitting on the passenger seat, or in my backpack just in case a Bald Eagle, Red Tailed Hawk, Roseate Spoonbill, or some other interesting animal crosses my path. I enjoy sports photography because of all of the technical challenges it creates. All of the action happens so fast you have to be prepared for anything, or miss the shot. Most of the kitesurfing photos on this site were taken with an Aquatech housing on my Nikon D810 from the water while kitesurfers jump over top of me. This can create a unique view of a sport which not many people have seen.
