I am a lifelong resident of Louisville, Kentucky. I graduated from DeSales High School. I received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Louisville in 1974 and my J.D. Brandeis School of Law in 1980. I have been married for 28 years to my wife, Donna, a retired Family Law Judge and we are parents to two adult children.

Following graduation from law school, I was a self employed general practitioner for 18 years, representing clients in criminal and civil matters and in all levels of State court and also at the trial and appellate levels in Federal court. In addition, from 1991 to 1998, I represented I.U.E. Local 761 and its members. I have received awards for and recognition for the number of pro bono hours donated during the years I was in private practice.

In 1989, I was elected to serve as Jefferson District Court Judge in Division Six and currently serve in that position. I was elected by my colleagues to serve as Chief Court Judge from 2008 to 2011 where I oversaw the introduction and implementation of the first recognition of the Jefferson District Court in more than 40 years. I currently serve on the Jefferson County Jail Policy Review Committee working on the jail overcrowding crisis. I also serve on Justice Minton’s bail reform committee along with other judges from throughout the state.

I have taught classes at the Kentucky District Court Judges’ Association, of which I am a member, including “Vivitrol to Combat Opiod Addiction” and “Strangulation as a Lethality Factor” in domestic violence.

I have volunteered for numerous organizations including, for example, Habitat for Humanity, Tyler Park Neighborhood Association, Metro Parks Association, Mayor’s Day of Giving, Shop with a Deputy, and have organized fundraisers for St. James Elementary and Assumption High School.
