Jim Gaither passed away suddenly but peacefully in his sleep on July 25, 2012. His friends plan to maintain this site as an archive of his spectacular photographic work, especially his depictions of flora.

 

We will continue to make Jim's work available on the same terms as he did during his life, via an "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs Creative Commons" license. Attribution should be James Gaither; his surviving partner would appreciate a copy of any print publications. Send email to Jim's account for further inforamtion and with any questions, or to request commercial permission.

 

Jim was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas and grew up in Ventura County, California. He lived in San Francisco from 1969. His chief interests were photography, natural sciences and gardening.

Gentle Cover (deleted)

James Gaither has an exceptional eye for composition and is able to capture several aspects of a specimen's morphology in a single shot. Being a taxonomist I really appreciate the quality and skill of his work. Thanks for sharing your talent with the rest of us!
