I have been posting photos to Flickr for a while now and decided to update my Profile. I passed the big birthday number 60 a couple months ago. It is just a milestone, but does have a certain ring to it.

I have had a varied background. I was raised in Alaska, then went to college in Washington State, spending summers in Alaska. Near the end of the Vietnam War I enlisted in the US Navy rather than be drafted into the army. I spent 6 years there. I then spent a bunch of years in the Insurance industry. Found my way to truck driver school and drove about 1,000,000 miles around the USA and Canada. I have sold stuff on eBay. Now my "business card" says I am a Professional Volunteer.

My interests are varied. I live with my son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandsons. They are a real joy to be with. I have an interest in things Japanese. This has led me to collect about 300 books on Japanese subjects, travel, novels, etc. I don't speak the language but have studied it enough to do small translations from the Japanese language into English.

I like mystery novels. I really enjoy Flickr, posting photos I like and that I think others will enjoy.

    IwateBuddy says:

"Tom doesn't take the kind of photos that win awards on Flickr or get chosen for the Interestingness group, but he does take real . . . good . . photos. They are real. They are pictures of the things around him that matter to him - and often to me. To me they are like Danny DeVito's coin collection in "Throw Mama from the Train". They were just nickles and dimes to anyone else but the stories attatched to them were priceless.

But Tom's photos are not just average, run-of-the-mill, photos either! They are good. I challenge anyone to find portraits as good as his of his grandson! They are beautiful and vivid and capture more than meets the eye. His flowers and birds are excellent and well worth the time spent perusing them!

Besides all of that Tom has become a good Flickr friend too. His comments are frank and to the point. We have been able to discuss important aspects of life as well as photography. I hope his busy schedule of family and volunteer work don't pull him far from Flickr for vey long! Keep up the good work!"
