[Resolved] Linking Twitter to Flickr not working again and no previews in Twitter links

BlueisCoool says:

This issue had been fixed about four weeks ago but has started up once again. When posting links to Twitter the photo does not appear. I did a search for other flickr images that were recently posted and almost all of them were blank with the exception for a few photos that did appear. I also used the Twitter's Card Validator and it reports "ERROR: Fetching the page failed because the response is too large" when I enter a link to a flickr photo page. Maybe flickr staff can look into this issue once again.

Thank you

Scott

I can report the same issue. The error message from Twitter´s card validator is:

ERROR: Fetching the page failed because the response is too large.

I've been having this problem for about a month or so. Flickr becomes more expensive but we get less for our money than we did years ago.

Hey everyone,

We don't have an update to share yet, but we haven't forgotten about this. Thanks for your patience in the meantime. We will post an update as soon as there's a fix.

Any update on this, please? (I did post you guys a series of solutions by email and in this thread when the same issue occurred last month - www.flickr.com/help/forum/72157716210190022/?search=flick... )

Here's another solution for your devs if you don't (for whatever reason) want to correct the issue with Twitter not seeing the card details due to too much code on the photo pages.

1) at server level, redirect twitter shares from the user photo page
eg: www.flickr.com/photos/tomtolkien/50350150202/

to the view all sizes (l) page eg: www.flickr.com/photos/tomtolkien/50350150202/sizes/l/

2) at server level, add appropriate twitter card data (injecting the Twitter title and description sourced from the Flickr photo image title and first two lines of description from the Flickr photo page) - on the fly - for the "view all sizes" pages.

3)The view all sizes pages use far less code and Twitter will have no issues parsing the page to see the card data for validation.

4)
Get rid of 1990s style REM code such as this in your source HTML:

Why? There's no value in keeping it and it causes HAVOC with social media validators that want to see their metadata in the first 50-100 lines.

Hope that helps.

I do believe that 3 items above your last post, Flickr said that they would post a response when they have one, or do you want a stream of "We are working on it" posts? :)

Thanks for everyone's patience here.

We've rolled out a fix that should have previews displaying as intended when sharing to Twitter.

Let us know how things are looking for you!

All my previews are now showing and I just tried posting another one and that is working as well. Let's hope this fix continues to work in the future.
