Pro Subscription Cancelled without Notice or Explanation

I received an email from Flickr on 12/29/2018 that my Pro subscription would be automatically renewed on 1/28/2019. I've been getting these auto-renew notices for every year for which I've been a Pro subscriber, which has been several.
When 1/28/2019 came and went I assumed that the renewal went through and didn't think twice about it. But tonight I received an email saying that my Pro subscription has been cancelled with no explanation.
Of course I logged in and re-subscribed, but it's baffling to me that I didn't receive a notice two months ago that the payment (apparently) didn't go through, particularly since I don't think my credit card information has changed since my last payment.
In addition, when I logged in I was notified by a pop-up that 3/12 was the cutoff date for downloading photos from free accounts, which didn't help me much since it's already 3/14. There was no email notification about this either.
I get that the new owners have their hands full but the poor communication does not inspire confidence.

Yes, because I re-subscribed. My point is that the communication around renewals, deadlines, etc., needs to get better.
