[Acknowledged] Cannot Upload Any Photos!

Siobhan S says:

This is driving me insane.

Every time I try an upload a new batch of photos (currently 12) i get a plethora of errors after a minute or so of the pink 'bar', ranging from 1 image timed out, to disconnected.

My internet is working fine and I can browse the rest of flickr without issue.

What is going on?!

Since the change of the layout of Flickr upload is broken!
I tried it with THREE different Lightroom plugins and via Safari.
Same story all over.
Network connection lost, "check your internet connection".
Are you kidding me, check your server and software FLICKR you have a problem and not my internet.

Siobhan S:

Whether you raise a ticket or a bag of rice in China is tipping does not matter - my opinion.
I am pretty sure they know they have an issue, if they don't then they are completely stupid in my eyes.
The number of uploads should have dropped by now significantly.
Most of my friends here suffer the same problem.

Màrtainn says:

It's probably the new uploader program which Flickr has created to turn Flickr from a photographer's site to a picture backup site.

The new program uploads entire folders and defaults to upload everything from your computer. Flickr's servers have just been overwhelmed as more and more people run the new program.

The change to a backup site instead of a photographer's site is also tied into the new auto-tag service. It's a way for Flickr to auto-tag everyone's backups because they won't have the time or inclination to do it themselves.

Glad to know I'm not alone. After exiting the site and coming back in, the popup indicated I needed to renew my Pro account - which I didn't think I need to do anymore after the changes from a year or two. Thinking that was the issue, I signed up for two years. As HubbDaddy above says "wasted a lot of time on it" plus money too! Wish I would have checked the forum 10 minutes before I plunked down $45.

Hot Rods Unlimited:

A pity. Free account works the same, it must have been just a reminder that renewal was due, not that it was necessary for the uploading. It just happened when you were involved with uploading.

spectradev says:

Glad I found this topic page as a new user. Same experience, with several hours wasted attempting to upload about 150 jpegs, resulting in about a 10% success rate. I also found an issue with the new uploader attempting to upload entire folders, including the root, when I had only selected a sub-folder. Another problem is it appears that an index is created without the actual files uploaded, but when you attempt to re-upload, the system thinks the file already exists due to the index.

Whoever managed this upgrade and provided testing should go back to wherever they came from. This is one of the worst roll-outs I've seen in a 20 year IT career. Its roll back time.

And as a side, Flickr... If you are going to have Flickr auto-load more images when we reach the bottom of the page, you might not want to put important links (like to the Help Forum) on the bottom of the page, where we can never click it because more images are loaded as soon as we get down to where we can see the link. I don't think that was very well thought out.

I've also had problems uploading the past few days. It's very random. It's like a ~20% success rate (i.e. I need to retry 4-5 times before it's successful).

I'm guessing that a lot of people are using Uploadr and the new iOS/Android apps which default to backing up everything. Flickr's uploading servers must be getting hammered.

It'd be nice if they would at the very least acknowledge this issue. The errors imply that something is wrong with the users' computers/connections when that's not the case.

I also wonder if they'll beef up their servers... or if they think it's a one-time problem and are willing to just to ride it out...

Extremely annoying.

PS: other than this, I like the new changes for the most part.

Upload is extremely unreliable in Firefox - I reckon less than 1/10 single uploads *might* work if you are persistent.

Internet Explorer seems to work, but is painfully slow.

My guess is that Yahoo servers are under a lot of upload pressure and the upload scripts are timing out in the other browsers.

This seems to be a perfect storm of loads more upload traffic and some slightly iffy or untested (across different browsers) scripting. The interesting question is: will it get better or worse?

After over a day this problem has not been resolved - and there seems to be absolutely no indication that Flickr are doing anything about it - or or even aware of it! Absolutely disgraceful service. I did manage to get a few photos uploaded yesterday, but since last night haven't even been able to upload one. If this isn't sorted soon I think there'll be a mass customer exodus from Flickr. It would help if the staff would at least put up a message acknowledging all these complaints and giving some idea of when things will get sorted out.

I agree with comments above that uploading has been complicated by the 'dump' mode newly made available. This has f*****d up normal uploading for the rest of us. However, my Flickr feed does show other people's recent uploads so it must be working for some.

Still, very poor service (refund or compensation due for pro users?)
