[closed, redirected] UPLOAD Servers speed DOWN to 3 %(max)

HungaroFLASH PRO says:

Since 8th of May - new design release - the UPLOAD speed has dramatically slow down.
now my upload speed is 200-400 Kbps.
Before Friday was 11Mbps.
Example:
A 5MB photo upload was 4 seconds before Friday.900 pictures per hour.
Now this same picture upload is 3 minutes in lucky time.
Unlikely there is much longer uploads then 3 minutes. 20-22 pictures per hour.2days to upload 900 pcs.
When server operators will realize this issue?
Are there any background processes slows down their time because design change?
Or other changes as well that not published?

Anyway same computer at the same hours YouTube upload speed is 11 Mbps.

I use WEB UPLOADER. IE.

THEORY 1:
maybe FLICKR servers are busy because they are RE-ALLOCATE all our pictures between servers.
This is probably because of the new DESIGN. Or other strategy.
Reading deeper in this forum someone lost picture/s someone the whole account.
We are just lucky to have slow upload speed and look like having all pictures shot in past. :)
But if this theory is stands, I would rather to see a MESSAGE in my mailbox something like this "SORRY FOR SPPEDING DOWN UPLOAD. BEING PATIENT FOR NEXT 7 DAYS." But nothing coming like this.

Honestly, the *best* time to make a modification to Flickr is on Friday, just before all the developers leave for the weekend.

I don't know if you all detected my sarcasm, but this weekend has been *really* bad. 15% of my photos fail to upload. Upload speeds reduced to a TENTH of the normal speed. Processing times are 8x longer.

Testing was required for this build, and it appears that none of that was done effectively.

On my. I've been developing software for 35 years now.... It's probably the usual problem of getting software deployed too early just to have something new on the market.

The other thing is that the bigger systems get the less testable they are.

That's why somebody "real" should be around when you put a major change into production... well, it doesn't look that way...

I don't think it's software on the site itself. It is much more likely that the new uploader program which has been designed as a backup program to upload entire folders to Flickr has just overwhelmed their servers as more and more people load and run it.

I just wasted hours trying to upload some images; many timeout problems reported for individual files with repeated requests to "reconnect" (I've no idea what that means), then the whole upload failed completely at the final step. I wish that Flickr would just roll back the past couple of years worth of "improvements." It seems that the more changes that are made, the more unreliable the service becomes.

This is a bummer, some users utilize this site as part of our jobs, and, we don't work just on a Monday - Friday schedule, aka, this is impacting our work, productivity, promotion, whatever. These upload problems are very disappointing. My staff has been trying for two days to do our upload of program images to share with families that pay for art classes with our institution. Repeated 'disconnects' 'image retries' etc have been common issues over the last 48 hours.

Ehhh... I've been developing for 9 years. *every* system is testable, regardless of size and scope. You just have to build testing into the system. There's no reason to not test, and there's no such thing as "not testable." Unit Tests, Automated Tests and QA Tests can all work in tandem to make sure the system is Stable, Usable and follows standards.

This is poor management and development vision.

I didn't say that testing is useless.
But once systems get big enough complete testing is an almost impossible task. That's why you have people hanging around if you do a major change over.

You can simulate reality. Not really :-) That's what I learned.

But you have to be prepared for it hitting you square in the face...
