Very slow upload speed

geogan says:

I know this has been on previous threads but they appear to be closed so...

I'm upoading my first batch in a good while and its slow as hell.

I'm attempting to upload 392 photos which comes to over 2.5Gb and using the Windows desktop "Flickr Uploadr" application I am getting an upload speed of ~44KB/s !!

Now my broadband speed for uploads is 4MB/s so it is not my connection.

Is 0.043MB/s (0.01% of my upload bandwidth) an acceptable upload speed in 2015 do you think!?

Yep, I'm at 2 hours to do 7 images out of 100, at an upload speed of 11Mbs!! At this rate I'll be dead before they're finished!! Seems many are having the same issue, but a wall of silence from the Flickr team!! :-(

I have also tried different browsers, and turned of AVG :-(

Same problem here. I tried to upload 21 photos earlier today. Gave up after a half hour. Seven of the 21 photos said Upload Failed-Retry. Every time I retried, I would get the same error message. I would also get a pop up that said I lost my internet connection. Which wasn't true. I opened a few other tabs and tested a number of websites, including Flickr, and they ran fine. Very frustrating.

I think it's a great shame the Flickr team haven't made some kind of announcement, at least acknowledging there's an issue, and advising us what to do or how long to wait etc.

Can someone please help......previous to the changes on this site I was able to upload a single image in about ten seconds and multiple images in about 1 minute, my upload speed, which I have checked, is 11. Now after the changes it takes each image up to 5 minute to upload and that is if the upload does not fail with a message saying "upload failed please fix problems and try again" What is going on, do I need to update my Chrome or change to Firefox or sit here twidelling my thumbs until some up at flickr sorts this out?

I've just tried using the old uploader to do the photos in small batches but it appears to have hung as well with no feedback. Flickr's upload systems are failing badly. What have they changed/done? It's got shades of the disastrous new untested interface they slapped onto Flickr in 2013.

I haven't been able to upload a single file for many hours. There should be a service announcement - even if it's just to say something's not working and whether anyone is actually trying to fix it. My theory is that it's the new apps trying to swallow up too many people's hard drive back catalogue at once.

m_stockley says:

This seems a good theory. If this is the case then hopefully things will settle down soon. Maybe Flickr don't want to admit that their servers can't cope with the demand.

Maybe instead of timing out and forcing a manual "fix error" by the user, flickr should just keep trying the same photo over and over again while these upload problems are taking place. I get this error box 100% of the time now when I try to upload a batch of photos with the web form. Usually multiple times 5-10 during the batch upload.

Come on Flickr, a Yahoo Company, this is getting utterly frustrating, at least 1 out of every 10 photos claiming to fail to upload through the web interface, and just as many issues with the uploader. Multiple errors of connection time outs. This is occurring through multiple ISPs, yes I have tested it. It is a problem on your end, just an update would be good. I am supposed renew my pro account this week, I am really reconsidering it.

Uploading Timed Out by thomashawkblog

Uploading a batch of three did not work. I removed one and tried 2. 2 almost worked, but right at the end I got the error message above.

I'm assuming that the only way to upload high res photos to flickr at this point is to do them one by one by one by one. Frustrating.

It seems like the ones that are making it are autotaged upon upload. I wonder if the autotagging system has now been integrated into the upload path and it's being overloaded and that's what's causing this.

If so it might make sense to remove the autotagging function from the upload path and instead get the photos up first and then autoag them afterwards?

Just downloaded the new Flickr uploader.

It defaults to uploading every picture on your computer.

No wonder Flickr uploads are so poor. Their servers must be getting hammered as everyone uploads everything in one go.

What a mess. They should have made the default no folders and let people choose which ones they want.

While I certainly get that people working on Flickr deserve a weekend off. It is very bad customer service for a company with Yahoo's resources to have not a single staffer look at the help forum all weekend long. Especially when they have a service issue of this magnitude.

Even if this problem cannot be easily fixed or corrected, they should at least acknowledge that they are looking at it.

The fact that nobody at flickr is assigned the task of checking in on the help forum all weekend long by a company with a multi billion dollar market cap boggles my mind.

twitter.com/thomashawk/status/597741480808157184

Just acknowledging that someone is in fact listening, even with no remedy is valuable customer service. I'm surprised they are not handling something like this better.
