- Samsung Galaxy S
- 2.2.1

- App is very slow to load
- Interface is very slow to react; needs several taps of the screen before anything happens
- Uploads don't adhere to privacy settings for my account (my uploads should be private initially, uploads via the app are defaulting to public). Will this be the same for safety settings?
- App always defaults to the activity screen, regardless of the last screen used; it would be nice to have the option to select which screen is the "home" page.
- Viewing larger copies/details of the photos results in an "Unable to load photo" message.

Items in bold seem the more significant. At the moment it's quicker and easier to use the mobile site via the phones web browser and upload via email, if needed.

Umm, it doesn't show up searching in the google-market using my mobile phone (Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9003, Movistar, Spain).

But I've got it installed -and working- on my phone accessing the "market" ( market.android.com/details?id=com.yahoo.mobile.client.and... ) from my PC (firefox), and logging in on my associated g-mail account.

One other suggestion: When swiping from one picture to another, it would be nice to have a little reminder text somewhere to tell you if you're swiping through a photostream, or if you're swiping through a set (with the set's name, of course).

According to Android Market, this app is "Not compatible with your country" (Belgium / Samsung Galaxy S)... are you serious!?

Also, can anyone explain why this app "needs" access to contacts AND permission to read and write/send sms and mms messages!?

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise, that it is "not compatible with your country"...

Anyone else in a no-go country looking for a way to easily upload pictures, check out UpFlickr: not really an app, but a great extention that adds a Flickr entry in your "share" menu.

I don't see how my country (Romania) has anything to do with the flickr application for android, if it is not free i can buy applications from the android market since march, I think. Still the market on the phone does not find the app (only third party Flicr apps, not made by Yahoo) and the web market says it cannot install on my " device's country" . It doesn't seem fair since I have a Flickr account from my country. I just don't understand the regional policy because it is the same service, same content anywhere in the world....

1) The app is auto rotating photos that are portrait in orientation to landscape upon upload.
2) "Keep location private" should be the default. Users should not have to check the box for every upload. Option should also be in settings for those who like location sharing always on or always off.
3) Cannot edit info or rotate photo from app after uploading.
4) When selecting camera's photo gallery from app, app hangs or freezes completely forcing me to exit.
5) The "Share with more friends" function fails to upload to Facebook. It also shows long dead Blogger blogs in my list with no option to remove or unlink them to the app.
6) Naming the filters for cities is not intuitive. It would be helpful if the names hinted at the effect of the filter on the photo.

A good start. Interface is nice and clean and app works well. Activity is pretty useless though because you can't filter for comments/favourite on your own photos which makes it frustrating. Also it would be nice if comments and favourites on your photos had notifications. Also any chance of adding in stats for pro users?

The slideshow swiping feels weird - you start moving you finger an there's no feedback, then when it registers a swipe gesture it moves all the way in one go. Contrast that with the HTC gallery implementation that moves with your finger; it's not actually faster, but the immediate feedback makes it feel more responsive.

Beautiful app! Nexus S, Canada.
When taking pic from inside app, however, sometimes it fails to load the photo.

Are the machine tags supposed to be formatted this way: flickrandroidapp:filter=none ? Seems clunky for a tag.

Also, will there be support for batch uploading? Not 42 pics or anything, but even the ability to upload 5 at once would be nice!

Tell us, what for does the app wants to 1. send sms, 2. receive sms, 3. read sms and/or mms

Access to the SMS functionality of your phone is a requirement for registering a new Yahoo! ID from within the app. This means a textwill only be sent only if you don't have a login ID yet, furthermore the sending of a text message is a requirement for registration in your country (for instance in the US). In any case, you would need to confirm that you want to send the message before the app takes any action.

I will share your question with the rest of the team to see if the SMS permission request can be disabled in countries where it's not a requirement for registration.

No bugs so far, but some feedback (FWIW: HTC Desire w/ Froyo, T-Mobile UK)...

There are a few things that mean it's unusable for me as a camera app:

- The camera doesn't remember the flash setting! If I turn it off (I always do) it should stay off.
- There's no way I can find of turning off the shutter sound. I hate shutter sounds. Does anyone in the world need them? (Does anyone in the world need the cheesy iris animation when opening the camera, either?)
- The AF is always on and always post-press. If I can't turn it off, make it prefocus, like the HTC camera app. But ideally, I want a hyperfocal fixed focus mode so there's zero shutter delay at all times. The tiny sensors in phones with their large DOF are ideal for this.

All the above would make the camera a really simple and effective P&S: no shutter lag, no worrying about focus, and no advertising your presence.

One minor (ish) point is that the app is very large (12MB IIRC) and that's a bit of an issue on the Desire with its restricted storage. I had to download the app several times, uninstalling some other apps and rebooting along the way.

The simplicity of the UI for contact streams and activity is nice - as a platform for the Flickr website it works well. It's just the camera that needs work.

Sticking with Vignette for now but if you can address those three points then I'm sold, purely on the basis of being well-integrated with my photostream.
