I think if people really think about this... what the sloppy slapping needs is some drama. They should have used some ellipses:

ficklr ... from yahoo

Ok, the strikethrough was an afterthought. But, dang it, you have to admit that the ellipses do add a sense of mystery and drama — the best kind of marketing ever.

Whatever happened to Microsoft buying Yahoo to get Flickr? Then we can have

flickr ... from Microsoft via Yahoo.

1) I knew there would be a thread here discussing the new graphic.
2) I am surprised it took Yahoo this long. ...
3) For whatever reason, maybe because like many I've been with Flickr since BETA, I could do without the 'from Yahoo'.
4) I might be able to live with it if they made the Yahoo smaller and gray - like the 'from'.
5) I really didn't mean #4.

If you want to edit the script to put in your own image go to tools>Greasemonkey>Manage User Scripts. Click on the Change Flick logo script and click "edit". After the line: result.src =' you can replace the url with a thumbnail url from one of your images on flickr. You must change the height and the width to 100" and 64" respectfully.

Enjoy your personalized flickr/non flickr logo.

One of the things that they simply don't get - is that people/users/customers might like them more if they weren't so 'in your face' the whole time. They're like the online equivalent of the creepy mouth-breathing shopkeeper who follows you around a store persistently asking if 'they can help you sir/madam' until you end up so freaked out you leave without buying anything.

The Yahoo logo alone I find aesthetically offensive. It screams "dial-up in 1997" to me. And that's not a good thing. Ugh. It could be a little more low-profile or they could redesign the Yahoo logo to mesh better with the overall clean feel of Flickr. As it is, it seems simply garish and tacky.

At least give us paying Pro customers an option to not have it show up. Or make it all gray. Something to balance out the unholy combination of too many fonts and too many bright colors in one small space.

Ok Yahoo please understand your customer base here. This is not the Yahoo home page, Flickr users are a different breed. It is a community with a high proportion of Artists and Designers. Do not play around with a logo that does not need fixing, we all know you own Flickr, well done you bought a great brand. Don't ruin it with a purple logo. Didn't anyone ever tell you that purple clashes terribly with pink and blue?
Please just Look at Flickr's colour scheme- The pink and blue is used throughout the site (with yellow as a highlight colour) no other colours are used. That is why the design works. It is a perfect minimal canvas for people to display their loved photos. Stick a purple logo in the mix and what happens?

Like Dirk Sniggler's version :-). Don't know if its happened elsewhere but when I tried to post something in the Ealing Freecycle group to give something away so it wouldn't go in landfill, a purple yahoo box came over the top asking to check whether I wanted Yahoo to share that posting with other people in my Yahoo groups. Whether I clicked Yes or No it wouldn't even work properly & i had to post viaemail rather than direct from the group! Hows that for functionality... NOT!!

Yahoo USP
1. Take something that works, that people pay for
2. Stick a purple logo / box all over it without any consultation
3. Stop it working / break it
4. Frustrate and alienate your client base
5. Easy when you know how

Yahoo! Finance Manager: How much extra money will it make us?

Yahoo! Finance Manager: I need numbers, can't sign anything off without numbers

Yahoo! Marketing Manager: Umm, About $10 million.

Yahoo! Finance Manager: What is the NPV and the IRR, I can't sign anything off without numbers.

... 4 months later

Yahoo! Marketing Manager: OK, the from Yahoo! idea, I've done the numbers, it has a +ve NPV of 20 million over 5 years and and IRR of 20%

Yahoo! Finance Manager: OK approved.

Yahoo! Marketing Manager: Brilliant, I'll email the designer now and get them to make the change.

Flickr Designer: You want me to do fucking what? I'm not doing it.

Yahoo! Marketing Manager: You do know I could have you fired.

Lets just pretend that a company has some financial difficulties and realizes that one of their subsidiaries is worth more as an independent company
If it has a strong brand identity, It can be sold off or spun off with little harm to either its brand or the parent brand
